Phil Collins turned 58 this week.  The talented drummer, pianist, and vocalist got his first break in his late teens, when he became a replacement drummer with Genesis in 1970.  After singr Peter Gabriel left in 1974, the group auditioned over 400 singers before finally deciding that Collins would replace him.

In 1986, Genesis hit number one on the U.S. singles chart with “Invisible Touch”, and had several other number one albums in the U.K. as well.  Once he went on his own, Collins had seven number one hits, including “A Groovy Kind Of Love”. He’s also played a number of acting roles in “Oliver”, “Buster” and “Miami Vice”.

  Happy B-day, Phil.

  Enjoy the music!

Billy Joel has never been accused of being afraid to live on the edge, especially when driving.

It was this week in 2003 that the singer lost control of his Mercedes S500, crashing into a tree, after losing control of the car and skidding for 100 yards.  He was airlifted to a hospital in the Hamptons, New York.

This wasn’t the first time the talented musician was involved in a serious accident.  In the spring of 1982, he suffered a broken wrist after crashing his motorcycle.  The injury required major surgery.

In his 1980 song “You May Be Right (I May Be Crazy), Billy boasted that he drove his motorcycle in the rain.  “You told me not to drive, but I made it home alive… so you said that only proves that I’m insaaane!”

  How true.

  Enjoy the music!

Make them S.M.A.R.T.
The difference between “I want to get into shape” and “I need to walk 40 minutes 3 times a week” is pretty vast. You’ve probably got much more intriging goals than either of those, but the same key criteria should apply to making your goal a realistic one.

I found this great idea on the great website:  Lifehacker.com

Use the S.M.A.R.T. guidelines to shape them: Specific (“Run 2 miles, three times a week”); Measurable (“Improve my mile times by 25%”); Achievable (Avoid pie-in-the-sky goals that you can’t expect to achieve.); Realistic (Give yourself the time necessary to achieve the goal. Don’t expect overnight success.) Timely (Have a real deadline with progress check-ups; get your first 5K under your belt by Sept. 1, instead of “Run a long race this year”). A more thorough schooling on S.M.A.R.T. is offered by Robert Bogue at TechRepublic.

The Inauguration this week was certainly a cause for celebration no matter which way you voted!  Change has come to America and can come to your favorite photo’s too!  I found this online and it is so much fun!  It is an Obamicon!  What is that you ask?  Artist Shepard Fairey created the iconic Barack Obama poster used during the Presidential campaign,  Now you can take your favorite picture and turn it into a piece of art you can put on your website, a coffee mug, stamps…the list goes on and on.  I have posted the original poster and my own Obamicon.  It is alot of fun and you can join and make your own absolutley free!  Just go to Obamiconme.Pastemagazine.com!  Have fun!!

This week in 1988, the Beatles received perhaps the highest honor any entertainer or group could receive: they were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame.

In attendance were Ringo Starr and George Harrison, along with Yoko Ono and Julian and Sean Lennon.  The notable absence was Paul McCartney.  In a letter to the Hall officials, Paul cited ongoing business differences with other two ex-Beatles as his reason for staying away.

It’s a shame that feuds between performers often get in the way of enjoying an honor such as this, but it is unfortunately the nature of the business.

  Enjoy the music!

I got this email in my in-box this morning. I slowly started to read and realized what a great list of things to pursue. I might even print it out and hang it on my refridgerator! It was from Jim Gentil, who I don’t know, but if he’s anything like his list, I’d like to know him.

Take a chance! All life is a chance. The person who goes the furthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. – Dale Carnegie
40 Tips For 2009
1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile.
It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, ‘My purpose is to __________ today.’
5. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2008.
7. Make time to practice meditation and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
9. Dream more while you are awake.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds, & walnuts .
12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk, and let new and flowing energy into your life.
14. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip, OR issues of the past, negative thoughts, or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.
15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the NEGATIVE BLUES away.
18. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
20. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
21. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree!
22. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
23. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: ‘In five years, will this matter?’
26. Forgive everyone for everything.
27. What other people think of you is none of your business.
28. REMEMBER, GOD heals everything.
29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
30. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
31. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful, or joyful.
32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
33. The best is yet to come.
34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.
35. Do the right thing!
36. Call your family often. (Or e-mail them to death!)
37. Each night before you go to bed, complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.
39. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don’t want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life, so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.
40. Share this with those you care about. May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more,
May nothing but happiness, come through your door!Jim Gentil – Mr. Positive

In 1977, singer and guitar player Peter Beckett formed a group in Los Angeles, along with three other members.  The group called itself Player, and their first smash hit, “Baby Come Back” hit #1 this week in 1978.

In case the name of the group and song don’t ring a bell, here are some of the lyrics:

Baby, come back, any kind of fool could see… there was something… in everything about you.

Baby, come back… You can blame it all on me… I was wrong, and I just can’t live without you.

It looked as if the group might be on its way after that hit, but following the release of their self-titled debut album that same year, they failed to have another hit on the charts.  Guitarist and keyboard player J.C. Crowley left the group soon after to become a country artist, and bassist Ronn Moss left to join the cast of the daytime soap “The Bold and the Beautiful”.

Beckett retired the Player name in the early 1980’s to start a solo singer/songwriting stint, but he and Moss reformed the group in 1995.

  Enjoy the music!
